Update | 18 Months Natural!

It's hard to believe it's been a year and a half since I made one of the biggest decisions of my life and rejoined Team Natural. I say rejoin because I've realized that when we decide to rid our hair of chemical processing and hindrances, we're not 'going' natural. We're returning to our natural state; We're reclaiming our own perceptions of beauty and basking in what makes us unique. I'm so proud to be a part of this team! When I started this journey, I was scared out of my mind. Here, in the spur of the moment I'd just chopped all of my hair off and could not turn back - even if I wanted to. But as scared as I was, I'd never felt so fearless! This big head and it's little hair felt worthy of whatever I set my eyes on, and it must have shown because others began to notice a change in my attitude towards myself and others. You know that saying, 'when you look good, you feel good'? That, my friends, is the truth. Fast forward 18 months later and I've definitely come a long way! Check out this video where I update you on my natural hair journey, as well as what's in store for The Natural Mee!

Natural Hair Recap [Months 1 - 6]

It's officially been 6 months since my Big Chop last August and I couldn't be more happy with my progress!! I'm still in the process of getting settled in ATL, so this update will be a quick pictorial... nonetheless, even in pictures the growth is apparent and amazing!

I get a lot of questions about the products I use to make my hair grow... honestly, I don't do anything special! I don't even twist the fro every night as I should... I just love and take care of my hair! I co-wash and deep condition weekly and I don't overwhelm my hair with products. Quarterly trims (it's about time for one now) and keeping my hair stretched and free through twist-outs may be contributing to the growth, but it's nothing I'm doing on purpose, I promise!

I've gotten a few updated regimen requests from my YouTube subbies, so I'll whip that up and post soon (:

5 Month Natural Hair Update

Yep yep, it's update time! I'm actually like a week late and I didn't get a chance to shoot a video, but I couldn't let this month go by without dropping an update.

1.12.2012 marked the 5th month since my Big Chop and Mee & my fro have been through quite a lot... I'm talking more than just styles or products. It's like every day I'm falling deeper and deeper in love with my hair (and myself); even when it doesn't want to do what I want it to, I still totally DIG my hair. That's such a great feeling...

Alright, so let's get down to it. If you've seen any of my other natural hair updates, you know I usually do a comparison of progress... this time let's compare a Month 1 Wash and Go (left) to a Month 5 Wash and Go (right):

Crazy right? You probably can't tell because my hair was wet and shrunken when I took those pics, but it has grown a lot. If it wasn't my own hair I probably wouldn't believe that such growth has occured in less than 6 months... it's wonderful. You can really see the progress just by the new growth under the honey blonde color I did just before the BC.

I'm finding that the longer it gets, the more curly it is so even my blown-out stretched twist-outs have fallen victim to shrinkage. And if I thought I did before, I'm definitely having a problem keeping my hands out of my hair now more than ever [=

Thanks for growing with Mee my loves... I appreciate all the support I've received through your visits and comments here on the site, kinds words and Re-Tweets of my links on Twitter, purchasing my PynkLayce jewelry, or whatever you may have done in support of my endeavors. The natural hair community is a great community to be a part of [=

And if your natural (or considering taking the plunge), hang in there! It's challenging at times, but it's so worth it! I'm pretty sure you've heard that famous natural hair statement: my only regret is that I hadn't done it sooner [;

Happy Friday loves.

4 Month Natural Hair Update

December 12, 2011 marked my 4 month natural mark and I couldn't be more pleased with the growth and health of my hair so far! I've definitely come a long way in a short period of time:

I swear it seems like my hair magically grows overnight... The picture on the right was taken during my wash & twist routine this past weekend. I did a blow out (as usual) and almost cried when I was done! The amount of hair that has grown in 4 months is nothing short of amazing to me... I've truly been blessed.

I hadn't done an update since the 1 month mark, so of course I had to do a new video for my YouTube subbies (=

It's definitely been a challenge, but I've already learned so much about my hair and myself that I would do it all again without changing a thing. 4 months in and I refuse to look back... no lye (;
